BTS’ V on Choosing Joy Over Higher Goals, and the Path He’s Taken Since

BTS’s Taehyung (V) has spoken about choosing happiness over chasing ever-higher targets. His words, as shared by fans:

“Frankly… we could’ve gone higher, we had the chances but instead of dreaming again for something bigger, I want to laugh and be happy. Even if it’s a little lower, a little slower. I want to make music with our BTS for a long time.”

Making music at his own pace

V released his first solo album, Layover, in September 2023, built around a relaxed, mellow sound. All tracks from the album reached 130 million streams on Spotify, and the project showed an artist making music he wanted to make rather than following a formula.

Collaborating with artists he admires

In late 2024, V teamed up with veteran Korean vocalist Park Hyo-shin for the winter single Winter Ahead. The track surpassed 100 million Spotify streams in just 29 days after its premiere, and it became the first song by a Korean soloist to reach #1 on Russian Apple Music’s Top 100 Daily Songs chart.

Staying close to ARMY

V has kept up regular contact with fans through Weverse and other platforms. In early 2025, BigHit Music announced that he would release his photobook Rêvé on March 6, 2025, giving fans another way to enjoy his creative work.

Completing his service and returning

V finished his mandatory military service in June 2024 and returned to activities with his members, which fits his stated wish to keep making music with BTS for a long time.

In his own words

The quote comes down to three wishes: to laugh, to be happy, and to keep making music with BTS for a long time. His releases, his collaborations, and his return to the group all point in that direction.
