The Boy Who Grew Up to Be V

BTS V childhood story from Daegu

Every ARMY has a story of how BTS touched their lives—but sometimes, those stories begin long before the boys stood on stage.

One winter day in Daegu, a passerby’s ordinary afternoon turned into an unforgettable memory. While leaving a restaurant, she accidentally bumped into a young boy, spilling her bag. The child, flustered and endlessly apologetic, rushed to help her pick up the scattered items. Though it wasn’t entirely his fault, he bowed his head repeatedly, apologizing as though he carried the whole blame.

What struck her most was his thoughtfulness. When her friend returned for a forgotten scarf, the boy patiently held the door, awkwardly opening and closing it as the cold winter wind blew through. He was polite, innocent, and—she noted—remarkably handsome.

Touched, she offered him a piece of candy. His response came in a warm Daegu dialect, and when asked, he cheerfully admitted he was training to become a singer. She smiled and told him, “If you become a singer, I’ll be one of your best fans.” His eyes lit up as he grinned: “You promised me!”

Years later, as she watched TV, she recognized the child instantly—he was no longer just a polite boy in a restaurant, but Kim Taehyung, V of BTS. True to her word, she bought his albums, even sharing them with her son’s friends in hopes that they would also support him. At first, she worried if he would succeed, but in time, her heart swelled with pride as she watched him become one of the biggest artists in the world.

Now, she supports V with the same warmth she felt that winter’s day, saying: “These days, I support Taehyung with pride as if my own son had succeeded. If they ever need a garden background for filming a music video, I’d gladly offer mine.”

📌 This story was first shared on Naver Café (로자리안_로즈가든), a Korean community platform, before circulating among ARMYs worldwide.

Stories like these remind us that behind the global star is still the sweet, thoughtful boy from Daegu—someone who left a lasting impression long before ARMYs knew his name.

English Text:

One winter, I suddenly bumped into a child who came out from behind in a restaurant, and my bag fell and things spilled.

The child who bumped into me was very sorry and helped me pick up the things.
In fact, it wasn’t all his fault, we did it half and half, but he said he was sorry several times, as if it was all his fault. After that, when my friend left her scarf and went to pick it up, he was holding the door open for us, and when the cold wind came in, he closed it again, and opened it again, he was confused and held the door.

It was nice to see a handsome boy doing that, so I gave him the candy in my pocket and he spoke in a Daegu dialect.
I asked him if he was from Daegu, and he was very happy and asked me how I knew that, and I asked him if he was a student, he said he was training to be a singer.
I said, “If you become a singer, I’ll be one of your best fans,” and the child was excited and smiled, “You promised me!” He was innocent and very cute.

One day, I was watching TV and the child I saw at the restaurant came out.
He became a real singer in two years. As promised, I bought some albums and gave them to my son’s friends as gifts to become one of his best fans, but they didn’t like them very much, so I was afraid that he would not succeed. I was worried about whether that cute child would be okay, but in the end, he succeeded.
These days, I support Taehyung with pride as if my son had succeeded. If they need a garden background when filming a music video, I’m willing to provide it.
