BTS was invited to the White House to meet the president of the United States to discuss Asian inclusion and representation and anti-Asian hate crimes. The White House mentioned in their press release that they “will also discuss the importance of diversity and inclusion and BTS’ platform as youth ambassadors who spread a message of hope and positivity across the world.”
BTS is the first band to bring the American Music Awards – Best Artist of The Year Award to Asia. They also had the opportunity to speak at the UN and the UN SDG Conferences as President’s Representatives on behalf of the South Korean Government.
Last year they shared a Twitter message condemning crimes against Asians, and that Tweet became one of the most engaged Twitters in 2021.
Talking against violence is not new for BTS. They teamed up with UNICEF and prepared the LOVE MYSELF campaign to raise awareness; the ENDviolence – LOVE MYSELF campaign was first launched in 2017, and now it is celebrating its successful fourth year.
BigHit MUSIC & BTS donated $100 million to the campaign and a portion of their income from Love Yourself albums sales + 100% of all profits from the LY merch, becoming the first artists in Korea to raise funds for part of a social fund for global campaigns.
The ENDviolence campaign is a global campaign project currently being staged worldwide. It is primarily aimed at protecting children and teens from violence and encouraging preventive measures. This aim has a common ground with the values pursued by BTS.
