Early Dreams and Career Beginnings

Originally aspiring to be a journalist, Jin’s career trajectory changed after watching actor Kim Nam-gil in the drama “Queen Seondeok.” This experience inspired him to pursue a career in acting. While studying acting at Konkuk University, Jin was scouted by the South Korean agency SM Entertainment. However, he declined the offer as he focused on acting at the time.

Jin’s path to becoming a member of BTS, one of the world’s most popular boy bands, was a surprising one. He was scouted by Big Hit Entertainment for his looks while walking down the street and auditioned before transitioning to become an idol trainee. Jin debuted as one of the vocalists in BTS on June 13, 2013.

He took a break from his musical career in 2022 to fulfil his mandatory military service and returned in June 2023 amidst a grand welcome from fans worldwide.

Philanthropy and Public Image

Jin is known for his philanthropic efforts, including donations to animal welfare organisations and UNICEF Korea. He has also been recognised for his influence and popularity, ranking high in polls and surveys in South Korea.

Musical Achievements and Solo Career

BTS Jin has made significant contributions to BTS’s music as a vocalist and songwriter. He has released several solo songs, including “Awake,” “Epiphany,” and “Moon,” which showcase his vocal prowess and emotional depth. Jin’s solo efforts have been well-received, with his songs charting high on Korean and international music charts.

In addition to his solo music, Jin has collaborated with bandmates on various projects and has been recognised for his musical talent and contributions to BTS’s success.

His solo career showcases not only his vocal ability but also his talent as a songwriter and performer.

Following his enlistment, Jin continued to connect with fans through heartfelt solo releases. Songs like “The Astronaut,” co-written with Coldplay, highlighted his ability to blend vulnerability with soaring melodies. In 2024, his dual-release singles, “Happy” and “Echo,” captured his evolving sound, which was intimate, reflective, and emotionally rich. These songs not only affirmed his growth as a soloist but also deepened his connection with listeners, showcasing his unique artistry outside the group. With each release, Jin proves that his voice, warm, expressive, and unmistakably sincere, stands strong both within BTS and on his own.

Collaborations and Covers

In 2016, Jin collaborated with V on the single “It’s Definitely You,” featured in the soundtrack of “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth.” This collaboration earned them a co-nomination for Best OST at the 2017 Melon Music Awards.

Jin has also impressed fans with his solo covers, including “Mom” by Ra.D, “I Love You” by Mate, and “In Front Of The Post Office In Autumn” originally by Yoon Do-hyun in 1994. These covers, released on SoundCloud, showcase Jin’s ability to interpret and deliver songs with his unique style.

On June 4, 2019, Jin released his first independent song, “Tonight,” via SoundCloud as part of BTS’ sixth anniversary celebrations. This acoustic ballad, composed by Jin and Big Hit record producers, has received praise for its calming atmosphere and heartfelt lyrics, which are inspired by Jin’s relationship with his pets.

Jin’s second independent song, “Abyss,” released on December 3, 2020, delves into his anxiety, doubt, and burnout. Co-written and co-composed by Jin, RM, and record producers, “Abyss” showcases Jin’s introspective side and ability to convey deep emotions through music.
